Indian classical music is not merely sound and performance. It is a profound knowledge tradition rooted in Sanskrit śāstra, where theory (Lakṣaṇa) and practice (Lakṣya) exist in a dynamic, inseparable relationship. Musical depth emerges when technical mastery is supported by philosophical and textual understanding.
The Samskṛta Saṅgītam program is designed to revive this holistic learning process. Through a structured and graded curriculum, learners engage with classical texts, Sanskrit foundations, voice culture, rāga and tāla systems, and authentic performance methods. The course cultivates musicians who sing and perform with insight, precision, and inner awareness.
Led by senior scholars and accomplished musicians nurtured within the guru–śiṣya paramparā, this program offers a rare platform to experience Indian classical music as a complete knowledge system rather than a performance-oriented training alone.
Learners emerge with strong musical grounding, cultural depth, and a conscious connection to the tradition they embody.
The courses are set in Four Levels each level treated as an independent Short-term course.
We recommend students to take these courses sequentially for a comprehensive learning experience though students can choose to enter at any level depending on their proficiency.

Samskṛta Saṅgītam
Samskṛta Saṅgītam is designed for students of vocal and instrumental music who seek depth beyond technical proficiency. Rooted firmly in Sanskrit musicological texts, the program nurtures musicians who understand the philosophical, theoretical, and aesthetic foundations of Indian classical music.
An Overview of the courses
Lakṣaṇa (Theory) Section
- Introduction to basic samskrta language
- An orientation into the Study of Sangita Shastra
- Study of select Saṇgīta textual treatises in graded manner appropriate to the Level of the course
- Brhaddēśi
- Saṅgīṭarātnākara of Śārṅgadeva
- Rāgamala of Paṇḍarīkavitthala
- Caturdaṅḍīprakāśika of Veṅkaṭamakhin
- Texts from three eras: Pracīna (Ancient), Madhya (Medieval) and Ādhunika (Modern) yuga in Bhārtīya saṅgīta śāstra are introduced in a graded manner across the four levels to create a foundational understanding of these Śāstra Granthas.
Lakṣya (Performance) Section
The following aspects are taught in a graded manner across the four levels:
- Prathamābhyāsa, Knowledge of tāla systems, tāla abhyasa and tālālaṅkāra abhyasa
- Swarajatis (Jatiswara), Varnam and Kritis of different levels of proficiency derived from various composers across different languages including Samskrta and Kannada.
- Few unique, rare and uncommon compositions may be selected
- Discussions on Music composition for Musical Feature, Dance feature / drama feature
- Learn techniques to accompany vocal/instrumental music sessions
- Perform Lakshya and discuss the Lakshana as a natural course of art learning
- Our aim is to enable a good, devoted student, after completing various levels of courses, to be able to give 30 to 60 minute higher technical and artistic performances depending on the level of completion and their personal pursuit.
