About Indian Musicology Day

India is indeed not just a great Nation but a continent from where Knowledge and Nobility, Peace and Perseverance, Creativity and Wisdom has originated. This holy land has preserved, propagated and nurtured all this Sattva since its hoary history began. Indian Musicology, which ensconces our Music, Dance and Theatre, is revered as India’s contribution to the world’s knowledge and lifestyle.

Yet, we have not had the privilege of declaring a day exclusively for this purpose to cherish and propagate it for the future. Therefore, from the year 2022 onwards, May 9th of every year is proudly declared as ‘Indian Musicology Day’, also to be called in the Indian vernacular as ‘Bhāratīya Sangīta Śāstra Dina’.

We endeavor to cherish this declaration with performances of Music, dance and agamic discussions, encourage and bring to light the Śāstra Knowledge with research, publication and such academic endeavors, and award eminent Śāstra personalities of our times.

Mahāmahopādhyāya, Padmaśri, Dr. R. Sathyanārāyaṇa

We honor the legacy of the legendary musicologist and Indologist, Dr. R. Sathyanarayana. His lifelong work, vast wisdom, and insightful penance have enriched all Indian knowledge systems.

His contributions continue to resonate in our century, and these celebrations stand as a fitting tribute to his extraordinary life and the premier path he set for research, reconstruction, and critical editions of Bhāratīya śāstra.
